Everyday moments
A weekly couple journal you can actually finish
One moment each, one appreciation, and one small plan. A simple shared journal template for keeping the ordinary bits of your week.
A shared journal can start with an ambitious notebook and end with two entries. Try giving it a smaller job: keep a few things you would otherwise forget about this week.
You can use a notebook, a shared document, or a place you already save photos. The format matters less than both of you wanting to come back to it.
Copy this little template
| A piece of our week | Your answer |
|---|---|
| One ordinary moment I want to keep | A sentence or photo from each of us |
| One thing I appreciated about you | Something specific, however small |
| One thing we would like to do next week | A small plan we both want |
Either of you can leave a section blank. This is a keepsake, not a report card.
What a finished entry could look like
Here is a made-up example of how little you need to write:
- A moment: “You trying to carry both coffees and unlock the door. The look on your face when I finally helped.”
- An appreciation: “Thank you for remembering I had that difficult call on Tuesday.”
- A small plan: “A walk to get bread on Sunday, if we’re both up for it.”
Add a photo if you have one. Leave out the photo if finding it would turn this into a chore.
Let it happen at different times
You do not have to sit down together to fill in your parts. One of you can start, and the other can add something later. Choose a moment to read it together when that feels welcome.
If you are not sure what to write, borrow one of these easy questions for the end of a long day.
Start again without catching up
If you miss a week, you can begin with the week you are in. There is no need to reconstruct every day you forgot to record.
After a few entries, you might have a little record of meals, jokes, walks, and ordinary kindnesses. The value is in what those details mean to you, not how polished the journal looks.
